Fly fishing course on Simojoki river, 20-21 August 2022
Do you want to learn how to fly fish salmon or do you want to learn more about the secrets of a great hobby? Our goal is to get to the basics of fly fishing during the course, learn the right casting techniques, and as a bonus we could offer you a decent adrenaline boost as the line tightens ... As the first flocks progress upstream, the salmon is aggressive to all the stimuli ahead.
In the course, we will learn both the use of a one-handed casting rod and the handling of a more robust salmon rod with two hands. A little theory and a lot of practical training at Simojoki! In the evening, you can also try fly tying, have a sauna and eat in good company, surrounded by beautiful nature on the riverside of the Simojoki River.
The content of the course is built according to the level of competence of the participants in the course. You can register for the course even if you have just started the fishing hobby! It's good to have your own fly fishing equipment, but you can also find loan equipment. Own wading equipment is required.
Come and have a nice fly fishing weekend with a group of friends! It is possible to book additional nights in the rooms at Simojoen Lohiranta or in the new log cabins on the riverside of Lapinkoski. For more information, please see www.simojoen-lohiranta.fi or www.lapinkoski.fi.
Simojoki river, a natural salmon river
Simojoki is the only river basin flowing within the borders of Finland with its own naturally increasing salmon population. From a fishing standpoint, the river is very easy to manage and fish due to its open shores and relatively low water levels. Given the size of the river, salmon can be caught in several places almost the entire width of the river. The Simojoki River also has a natural grayling population, and the largest grayling grows up to 50 cm in length. The Simojoki River and the Simojoki estuaries are a natural habitat for chubby perch and pike.
Simojoen Lohiranta and Lapinkoski have central locations for fishermen
Moving from the mouth of the river inland, the landscapes change from a lush marine environment to a wilderness. Lohiranta and Lapinkoski on the Simojoki River are located about 25 km from the sea. This area is central to the Simojoki salmon fishery.
After the start of salmon run at the mouth of the river, the first flocks are observed at the height of Lapinkoski and Lohiranta usually 4-6 days after the start of the run, usually in early June. The surroundings of Lohiranta and Lapinkoski in the Simojoki; Hömmönkoski, Lohiranta Louhelankari, Hanskankoski and the Lapinkoski fly fishing area are suitable areas for fishing right at the beginning of the season, until the end of the season. The area is also a popular spawning ground for salmon, and with the onset of autumn calm, active salmon are generally abundant in the area.
A popular basecamp for fishermen and hunters in the Simojoki River, in the municipality of Simo. At Simojoen Lohiranta you will find comfortable accommodation in a cottage or rooms. The riverside sauna is available to order. During the fishing season, the restaurant is open almost every day. There are a few places for a caravan in the yard. More information about Lohiranta can be found at www.simojoen-lohiranta.fi.
Lapinkoski is located about 25 km inland from Simo, about 1 km upstream of Lohiranta on the Simojoki River. In the coming years, high-quality and nature-friendly cottages will be built in the area for fishermen and hunters in a beautiful and quiet area that is great for fly fishing. The Lapinkoski fishing area is about 400 meters long, covering the entire southern part of the Simojoki Lapinkoski area. More information about the area can be found at www.lapinkoski.fi.
