The Simojoki River – a true gem of Northern Europe!
Simojoki is one of the last free-flowing rivers in Northern Europe, running wild and untouched in its natural state. Every year, thousands of wild salmon return to the river, giving anglers the chance to experience genuine salmon fishing in an authentic athmosphere. In the upper reaches, there’s also a small unique grayling population, while the river delta and nearby lakes are well-known for producing trophy-sized pike and perch.
At Lapinkoski Outdoor Activities, we actively support the wellbeing of Simojoki’s waters and fish stocks. In our online shop, you’ll even find professional fishing guides if you want to learn more about Simojoki or other local hotspots.
Even the fishing – and especially salmon fishing – holds a special place in our hearts, Lapinkoski is also a great base for all kinds of outdoor adventures: hunting, hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and more. Getting here is easy – we’re only about an hour’s drive from the airports of Kemi-Tornio, Oulu, or Rovaniemi.
From Lapinkoski, you’re also close to many other attractions: 1.5 hours to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, 1 hour to Ranua Zoo, 45 minutes to Kemi, where you can explore the SnowCastle or take a cruise on the famous icebreaker Sampo, 15 minutes on foot to Lohiranta restaurant (open daily June–August, and for groups by request at other times). By car you can also easily reach local husky farms, petting zoos, and reindeer farms. Simonkylä’s historic museum road with its riverside museums offers a glimpse into authentic Finnish rural culture. And if you’re into wild landscapes, Lapinkoski is a perfect starting point for exploring the Martinmoaapa mire protection area, whether it’s hiking, birdwatching, or casting a line in pristine waters.
